wins. alfred morris ran for a franchise record and a rookie record 13 touchdowns. but the seahawks are hot, too. they have not suffered a loss since november 25th and they enter tomorrow's showdown with a five-game winning streak. right now, players say they would rather be hot than be the best. >> i've experienced it before and seen it happen year in, year out. lot of times whoever is the hottest is the best team of the season. we're hot right now, but that can come to a screeching halt. momentum can be fleeting if we come out and play poorly and don't protect the ball early and things like that. we can keep this ball rolling, the momentum we have is definitely a great thing. >> you want to be the hottest team, the team that's playing the best right now there. are a lot of great teams that start off fast, end up being, winning the division early, securing a playoff spot, but kind of lose some of that, if they have a week off or something, and especially in the last couple of years, the teams

that have caught fire like the giants, you got the patriots -- not the patriots, green bay packers, caught fire at the right time, able to ride that all the way through the playoffs. it's not always the best teams. it's who is playing the best at the right time. >> this is tomorrow's game day lineup on fox at 3:30, kicking off coverage from fedex field with a special pregame show. the fox network pregame show starts at 4:00. 4 4:30 is kickoff, and after the game, post game show, live on the field. >> i should clarify. it's not that i'm not confident in this team. it's just that i'm nervous. >> it's a big moment. we talked about it last sunday, being the biggest game at fedex field. this is the biggest game at fedex field. >> this might be a loaded question, but if there is one thing the redskins need to watch for, what would that be? >> their defense needs to step up. the seahawks have a great defense. and the redskins' defense, great during the stretch, but haven't been great all season long. they will have to really step up. i trust that robert and alfred and the offense will get it

done. >> lindsay murphy, thank you. of course the redskins have inspired new fans with their success this year. in fact, they are even luring people away from their long-time favorite teams. fox 5's john hanrahan went to laurel, midway between baltimore and dc to find out who is leaning red and who is leaning purple. >> reporter: about 25,000 people live in laurel, maryland, located almost exactly between baltimore and washington. the nfl teams from both of those cities are on the hunt for playoff victories that will hopefully lead them to the super bowl. if you look around laurel, you will see some redskins paraphernalia on cars, but more cars in the laurel area are carrying stickers and license plates that label their drivers as fans of the baltimore ravens. >> where's your heart? >> oh, ravens. i started off as a baltimore colt fan. i never switched over to the skins. >> you're sticking with baltimore? >> oh, i stick with baltimore. when the ravens came.

>> now, if it's baltimore versus washington in the super bowl? >> ravens all the way. >> reporter: but if you ask don shin, who runs pie's deli in laurel, this community in the middle is definitely redskins territory. >> yeah, i thought that my customer, redskins t-shirts, red skin hats, even glove, everything redskins. >> reporter: some locals say a slight shift in geography makes a big difference. >> the further you go up, like jessup and elk ridge. right here is redskins fans. >> reporter: because baltimore's nfl team has been a serious contender in recent years, some laurel residents are beginning to pull for the team from the south. >> actually i would like to see the redskins win. >> redskins? >> yes. >> even though you lived in baltimore. >> i would like to see them win because it's been so long. >> reporter: cody is the only ravens fan who told us he is beginning to favor the washington redskins. >> i have been going with the

ravens, but now since rg-iii is with the redskins, i do, you know, starting to like the redskins as well. >> now, if it comes to a super bowl between the two? >> i will go with redskins. >> with the pass, with the run, he's opened a whole offensive scheme, you know, for the redskins, dynamic right now. >> that was john hanrahan. it wouldn't be a big game if there weren't a friendly wager on it. when the skins play the seahawks, the lose can team has to fly the winning city's flag over city hall for a day. >> so if we are to win, when we are to win -- [ laughter ] >> -- tomorrow, we will be sending our flag out to seattle to be flown over the seattle city hall. someone asked me how we were going to get it out there. that's an easy one. anybody know what our stadium is? >> fedex field! >> there you go! >> when we win, mr. mayor. when we win. the seahawks have been in the playoffs six of the last 10 years. they usually win their wild card game, but lose the following week. ratures,, last weekend fans watching the skins defeat their bitter rivals, the cowboys. will they have to do the same for tomorrow's game? >> fox 5's tucker barns joins us from the weather center to give us a game time forecast. >> the forecast will be winning out there, no doubt about it tomorrow afternoon. should be plenty of sunshine. best part, temperatures will be a good 15 degrees or so warmer than what we had last sunday night. all in all, fairly comfortable looking january 6th in store. should be just about perfect for football game. red skin forecast, partly sunny, temperatures -- it will be cool with temperatures in the mid-40s, falling to about 40 by the end of the game, but we should be dry. just a bit of a wind, a little bit of a breeze out of the north and west at 5 to 10 at times. nothing extreme. looks like a good looking

details. >> reporter: tonight, just as aurora police try to piece together the moment leading up to today's stand-off in this now-shattered apartment, we're learning more about the four people inside. family members tell us the victims include the suspect, 33-year-old sonny arc let take, his sister-in-law, 29-year-old stacy fillbrooke, her stepfather, 56-year-old anthony ticallo and another victim, so far only identified to us as chris. >> i think he was more reserved. that was one of the reasons why i never did really say much to him. >> reporter: darryl williams says he met the 31-year-old gunman before in passing and that each time they met, the suspect kept his distance. >> lot of times, i wave and, you know, he didn't wave back or, you know, the people over there just didn't wave back. so i just got accustomed to not -- you know, i just drive by. >> reporter: police background check shows archuleta had been arrested three times for weapons charges. family members also tell us they believe they may have had a drug problem. friends of on other victims, including those who knew anthony

. a protest in virginia tonight, in support of a murder suspect who was -- a last minute court ruling is keeping him in custody for now, but friends and family say enough is enough.

lauren dimarco explains. >> reporter: laura, it's a legal case filled with twists and turns and the fate of a 31-year-old man remains in question. tonight, his friends and family are calling for justice. meantime, relatives of the victim are also looking for closure. about two dozen protesters gather outside the entrance to a fund-raiser for virginia's attorney general. they are demanding 31-year-old justin wolf be released from jail. among the crowd, wolf's mother, who has a message for the attorney general. >> why is it, if he's such a pro life advocate, he's so anxious to have my son executed? >> reporter: wolf was convicted of arranging the shooting death of 21-year-old danny petrolly back in 2001. detectives say he was a marijuana supplier and wolf arranged the hit to avoid paying money he owed him. wolf was on death row until 2011, when a u.s. district judge threw out the conviction, claiming prosecutors withheld crucial information from defense

lawyers and coerced testimony from a key witness. >> it's time for my son to come home. >> reporter: last year, prosecutors filed new capital murder charges against wolf, but in december, the judge ordered him freed. just about an hour before he was set to be released this past thursday, a federal appeals court intervened, halting the order. protesters are now rallying behind the wolf family. >> we're just disgusted at what's happening with justin wolf and the case and the amount of money that the state of virginia has spent on appealing. >> i will remain hopeful. that's one thing they can never take from me. >> reporter: the man convicted of pulling the trigger testified as part of a plea deal that justin wolf paid him to kill the victim. he has since changed his story several times. petrolli's father, a federal investigator for more than 30 years, told us by phone he thinks the stay was appropriate and the case should be retried. he says he feels sorry for justin's mother and family, but at the same time, we miss danny

every day. justice needs to prevail. it should all be coming to a head soon. the court of appeals will hear arguments in the case later this month. back up to you. >> thank you, lauren. keeping track of a developing story tonight, a body found under a bridge near bening road, discovered under the bridge in the 3100 block of bening road in northeast, reported around 9:45 this morning. investigators say the body was a male, but the medical examiner will have to rule on how he died. dc police arrested a suspect after stabbing in northwest this afternoon. it happened in the 700 block of lamont street around 3:00. a man was stabbed in the head several times, but police have not released any more information about his name or condition. they haven't released the name of the suspect either. to westminster maryland police have a suspect in custody they believe could be involved in an early morning murder. police say a man was found dead on the back porch of his home on west main street. then hours later, police in anne arundel county got called to the scene of an erratic driver.

they found that suspect in the convenience store parking lot with the murder victim's car. st. mary's county police are investigating a drive-by shooting. it happened last night around 7:30. three teens were walking around grape mills when a car drove up. someone in the car fired shots, then took off. a 15-year-old was hit, taken to the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery. if you have any information that could help police, they would like to hear from you. also in maryland tonight, fire investigators in anne arundel county are investigating a deadly fire that happened last night. officials say a 40-year-old woman died today, after suffering injuries from this house fire in glenn burney. it took 50 firefighters nearly half an hour to get the blaze under control. nine adults and two kids are displaced. this is the second deadly fire in the county so far this year. to brentwood, where a two-story duplex went up in flames. luckily, no one was hurt here. firefighters say they had to use foam to battle the friday night fire that broke out on webster street. the damage is estimated at $25,000.

. more than 200 adults are in custody tonight, charged with participating in an international child porn ring. the feds made the arrest after an intense five-week investigation, with the youngest victim being just 19 days old. fox has the story. >> online child exploitation is a very real part of our lives and demands, absolutely demands, our full attention as a nation. >> reporter: immigration and customs enforcement director john morton announcing 245 arrests on criminal charges of child exploitation. the five and a half-week

crackdown, known aspiration sunflower, ended in early december. it targeted abusers and those who make or transmit child pornography. more than 200 of those individuals were arrested in the u.s. the rest were from overseas. >> we identified and rescued 123 children from either active or past sexual abuse throughout the world. >> reporter: 44 children were rescued directly from their abusers. >> we rescued five children between the ages of two and three. nine children were between the ages of four and six. 21 were between the ages of seven and nine. >> reporter: the agency now asking for the public's help in identifying these four individuals, suspected of child abuse. >> we need your help, as we can't solve this case without it. >> reporter: if you recognize any of those individuals, ice is asking you to call their homeland security investigation tip line at 1-866-347-2423. you can also go online to

ice.gov/tips. in los angeles, fox news. italian fashion designer missoni is missing tonight, after a small plane he and his wife were flying in went off the radar near venezuela. officials say it happened yesterday morning, shortly after takeoff. as of right now, crews are still searching for that plane. missoni is the son of the founder of the fashion house. he is a co-owner with two of his siblings. gerard depp par due is one step closer to becoming a russian citizen. the french actor is on his way to meet with president vladimir putin to get his passport. his application was approved earlier this week. why the switch? the actor is outraged with a proposal in france to raise taxes on the wealthy. if approved, french citizens earning more than $1 million a year would have to pay 75% tax rate. the current rate is 41%. a health alert tonight for anyone who is trying to avoid the flu.

according to the centers for disease control, it's spreading across the country in pretty large numbers. fox's molly henneberg has the details. >> reporter: there have been at least 18 deaths from the flu so far this flu season, all under age 18. but the overall number is probably higher than that, because states are not required to report flu deaths of people over age 18. take a look at this map with the latest centers for disease control information on where the flu is hitting. these 29 states are reporting high ili activity through the end of december. ili stands for influenza-like illnesses. from texas, new mexico, wyoming, east. here's what the cdc says about this year's flu season. >> we know about this year, is that it seems to be starting sooner than most flu seasons and the strain of flu that's spreading tends to be associated with earlier and more severe flu years. >> reporter: doctors say you can still get a flu shot. it takes about two weeks to become effective, but that could still give you some protection this year. to give you a sense of how

quickly the flu is spreading nationwide, the cdc says at the beginning of december, about 3% of patients going to the doctor had flu-like symptoms. that jumped to 5.5% by the end of december. compare that to last flu season, which was said to be relatively mild and at the peak of flu season last year, about 2.2% of patients were going to the doctor forlnesses. in washington, molly henneberg, fox news. just ahead, if it's not the cliff, it's the ceiling. days after lawmakers avoid going over the fiscal cliff, they are now worried about another obstacle, the debt ceiling. >> later, how do you show your redskins pride? if you're this woman, you show it one fingernail at a time. that story and more, coming up on the news at 10:00.

. president obama might choose his next secretary of defense on monday. right now, it looks like that choice is former nebraska senator chuck hagel. but the republican lawmaker won't necessarily have an easy time getting through the confirmation process. james rosen reports. >> reporter: the white house sources had cautioned that no decision had yet been made on the top pentagon spot, but two democratic sources told our ed henry that chuck hagel, former two-term gop senator from nebraska is likely to be nominated early next week. a maverick who opposed the surge in iraq and toured the mideast with then-candidate obama in 2008, hagel is assured of rough sledding in confirmation hearings. gop senator, marco rubio of florida has signalled he may block the aapproval unless hagel drops his embargo in cuba, and -- hezbollah as a terrorist

group. then there are remarks hagel made to veteran mideast diplomat, the jewish lobby intime dates a lot of people up here on capitol hill, hagel told milner a 2006 interview, adding i'm not an israeli senator, i'm a united states senator. finally, some gay and lesbian groups are unimpressed with the apology that hagel offered last month for comments he made in 1998 about the first openly gay ambassador, james hormel, whom hagel called agressively gay. supporters say hagel's infantry service in vietnam, where he was awarded two purple hearts, among other medals qualifies him for the job of defense secretary and the white house has lined up high profile backers to defend hagel's record on israel. >> he has been over the course of a long career in public service a supporter of the state of israel and its security requirements. >> reporter: president obama told nbc news last weekend he sees, quote, nothing to disqualify hagel. in washington, james rosen, fox news. there is the battle over

whether to raise the debt ceiling again. right now, it is set at $16.4 trillion. you might remember, there was a fight over whether to set it that high. in february, congress will have to decide again whether to raise it. it's a decision that essentially covers money already spent. >> something i will not compromise over is whether or not congress should pay the tab for a bill they have already racked up. if congress refuses to give the united states the ability to pay its bills on time, the consequences for the entire global economy could be catastrophic. >> the president and the democrats controlling washington repeatedly refuse to take any meaningful steps to make washington live within its means. >> last time congress threatened not to raise the debt ceiling, one creditor dropped the nation's credit rating. the international monetary fund warns that another fight like that will affect the world economy. it will soon be legal for some people to smoke pot in dc. the first medical marijuana clinics will open soon, and it's been a long time coming. medical marijuana was given a thumbs-up by district voters 15

years ago. now, it's about to become a reality, only if you live in the district and if you have a doctor's order. fox 5's bob barnard has the details. >> reporter: occupying that distinguished-looking bright blue storefront on north capital street just off new york avenue is a company called capital city care, getting ready to open its doors in a matter of weeks. what should be the first of four businesses in the city to begin legally selling marijuana. >> some of them will be open by early spring and the rest of them will be opening throughout the rest of the year, at which point qualified patients who have a doctor's recommendation will be able to purchase marijuana from these stores and take it directly home and use it in their homes. >> reporter: but only if you live in the district and only if you have any one of the four qualifying conditions. glaucoma, hiv/aids, cancer, and multiple sclerosis. >> we really thought long and hard about this, but there are so many people out there who

have chronic illness. we thought this was a good thing for the residents of the district of columbia. they convinced us that this is working in other states. so we're going to give it a try in the district of columbia. >> reporter: marijuana is still outlaud by the federal government, but now legal for medical purposes in 18 states, approved by 69% of district voters in a referendum 15 years ago but delayed by congressional concerns and the need for tight restrictions. the dc-based marijuana policy project-- >> is had to be tightly structured. now that it's going into effect, it provides an excellent example of how the systems can work. >> reporter: four dispensaries and six cultivation centers where the marijuana will be grown are to be licensed by the city. ward 7 council member yvette alexander is chairman of the council's health committee. >> it's not a step towards the

rg-iii will do. that knee, still an issue. >> he didn't have the superstar quality last week. >> i think the brace is a total pain in the neck for him, limiting how quick he is and how nimble he can be on the football field at times. but he did say this week he was going to try to sneak it off during practice and see if he could get away with not using it. >> whoa! >> i think team doctors were staying on him pretty good. >> that's good. >> i do think also, they say with lcl's, it takes a full month to heal, so this is the one-month mark. he'll still try his hardest. >> of course. >> the redskins are prepared for tomorrow's playoff game, as they can be. for the last seven weeks, they faced must-win games and they won those games. facing seattle tomorrow, the redskins keep the same mentality of one game at a time until time is up. it was a worst to first last two seasons for the redskins. they finished in the basement of the nfc east last year, rebounded to finish 5-1 in the division this season and in doing so, also won their first championship title since 1999.

following their victory over dallas last sunday, redskins improved to 10-6, just one year after finishing 5-11. so much accomplished, yet so little celebration. but why? >> you just can't be excited. only one team happy in the end. we don't want to be like that. >> we haven't accomplished nothing. you know what i mean? winning our division, it's a great accomplishment, yes. but, you know, it's so much bigger on out there. it's a bigger picture. until we can taste that and be a part of that, then all of us are working together. the texans hosting the bengals. matt schaub's first start. schaub's pass to the outside in the first quarter, intercepted by leon hall, returns it for 27 yards to give the bengals a 7-6 lead. third quarter, texans leading 9-7. arian foster, who rushed for 140 yards on 32 carries punches it in from 1 yard you out.

texans beat the bengals 19-13. next up, the patriots. georgetown on the road against marquette. two of his game high 18 points and this game was tied at 46-46. final seconds, georgetown down three, hoyas go to otto porter, drives, finds whittington on the baseline. the three-pointer to tie, no good. but the whistle blows. he is fouled. whittington would make the first two free throws. after a marquette timeout, his third to tie the game, and it's no good. marquette gets the rebound. georgetown falls 49-48 in their first big east game. freshman jake lehman getting his first start as maryland hosted virginia tech. lehman took advantage of the opportunity. he scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half and maryland led by 16 points at the break. then in the second half, another freshman took over, seth allen, scoring 14 of his team high 21 points. maryland took an 18-point lead.

superstorm sandy victims replace what at first seemed irreplaceable. care was founded in the wake of the disaster and has already recruited photoed ditting volunteers from around the world. terry and al satisfy an know rode out the storm in their house in oceanside, new york. now, piecing their lives back together, they say is one of the hardest things their 45-year marriage has endured. their basement was completely flooded, saturating and destroying everything that was carefully boxed up. >> i couldn't get myself to go downstairs to see the damage that was down there. it was just too much for me to look at. i just couldn't make it down the stairs. he was bringing things up and i'm, going, please, don't bring anything more up! i don't want to see it! >> reporter: volunteers from as far away as israel and the ukraine are using new technology to remove mud stains, scratches and water marks to restore photos, even reconstructing missing parts. each image takes between 10 and

17 hours to restore, a lot of time, but volunteers say it's worth it. >> usually, you just give money and that's all you can do. but here is something that i actually felt like my skill set allowed to help more than just, you know, the bare minimum. >> reporter: once a week, a collection point is set up in the tri-state area for sandy victims to bring their pictures. the group can scan up to 100 photos per hour. . panic for people in alaska last night, after they were rocked by a serious earthquake. the 7.5-magnitude quake struck around midnight in the pacific, about 60 miles southwest of the coast, prompting tsunami warnings and advisories down the coast of alaska and canada's british colombia. it did not pose a threat of hitting hawaii. . tucker, everybody wants to know how tomorrow is going to be game time, 4:30 kickoff?

start thed day with sunshine. then clouds moved in during the afternoon. off to the north and west, you see where it's falling as snow. what's going on, it's a very weak upper level disturbance moving through, stretching from pennsylvania, down into the carolinas, moving very quickly. could give us a few more showers, then east of us by early tomorrow. otherwise, not a lot going on. much of the week featuring a big dome of high pressure. winds out of the south here starting tuesday and that means temperatures above normal around here for much of the week. future cast, see if we can find anything at all. putting it in motion, there we are at 3:00. future cast giving us a couple light showers south and east of town, then gradual clearing early tomorrow. there we are by tomorrow afternoon at 4:00, game time, looking at generally sunny skies, temperatures in the mid-40s.
